本スタンダードは，適切な仕様レベルを設定することを目的とし，すべてのメカニカルインタフェースにおいてモジュール化と互換性を確保しつつ，技術革新への制限を最小限にしようとするものである。本仕様では，目的とする基板の表面の条件をあまり制限せず，その基板の長さと幅を基準にして各寸法の最大値や最小値を定義することにより，ほとんどの要求条件を代数的に表現している。カセットのメカニカルインタフェースだけが規定されている。すなわち，材料に対する要求条件やミクロでの汚染の制限などは規定されていない。ただし，本スタンダードは色々な設計や材料のカセットがこれに準拠して製造されるようにまとめている。
