Her life included famine, rebellions, and the birth of the Irish Free State. From a working class background, she became part of the emerging Catholic middle class, and married a successful businessman who served as an M. P. in Parnell's Irish Party in the British Parliament. She lived through social, technological, political and economic changes over nearly a century.
