’’شاہ محمد کا ٹانگہ‘‘ اِس افسانوی مجموعے کی کہانیاں زندگی کی رونقیں اورایسے درد و غم ہیں جنھیں جمع کیا تو چودہ افسانوں کی کتاب مرتب ہو گئی۔ سچ پوچھیں تو مجھے افسانے اور کہانی کی مابعد اور جدید تنقید کے الف با کی خبر نہیں، مجھے نہیں معلوم یہ جدید افسانے ہیں یا کہانیاں ہیں یا یہ سب کچھ روایتی ہیں، مَیں تو اتنا جانتا ہوں یہ میرے دل سے نکلی ہوئی وہ داستانیں ہیں جنھیں مَیں نے خود زندگی کے چوراہوں پر جوان اور بوڑھی ہوتے دیکھا ہے اور اب دل کی بستیاں بسانے والوں کو دکھانے نکلا ہوں۔ اکثر شہری اور درسی نقادوں کو مجھ سے شکایت ہے کہ میری کہانیاں زیادہ تر دیہات کے پس منظر میں ہوتی ہیں۔ مجھے نہیں معلوم وہ یہ بات اپنے احساسِ کمتری کے باعث کرتے ہیں یا پھر اُنھیں کسی نے سکھا دیا ہے کہ دیہات میں انسان ربڑ کے بستے ہیں اس لیے اُن کی کہانیاں لکھنا عیب کی بات ہے اور شہری لوگوں کی کہانیاں لکھنا برتر کام ہے اور اعلیٰ درجے کا فعل ہے۔ مَیں نے اپنی زندگی جہاں بسر کی وہیں کی کہانیاں لکھتا ہوں۔ اب اگر مجھے شہر کی زندگی میسر ہے تو شاید آنے والے دنوں میں شہروں پر لکھوں مگر ایک بات بتائے دوں کہ میری نظر میں کہانی صرف کہانی ہوتی ہے اور کہانی وہ ہوتی ہے جس سے زندگی پھوٹتی ہے۔  علی اکبر ناطق
