Along with the action as mentioned before, the lower the gear ratio the easier the angler will have to control the bait and to feel the bait through rough coverage or to control the motion and depth of a bait to avoid getting snagged by the bottom cover

Clear or dark green lines are preferred by some anglers, often because they believe the steelhead can see the high viz mainline, and I agree, but only if you DO NOT use a long 3 to 6 foot fluorocarbon leader, which I highly recommend for multiple reasons, including abrasion resistance and not losing your entire set up, or a giant steelhead due to line damage
